Stop Horse Slaughter, Video shows `inhumane’ practices

An animal rights group, backed by Toronto lawyer Clayton Ruby, is calling for an all-out ban on the slaughter of horses for human consumption in Canada – a practice that has increased here since it was stopped in the United States.

Ruby called the slaughter of horses in Canada “shockingly inhumane” and said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency does not properly police such slaughter for human consumption and it should be banned.

Seoul: Classify Dogs as Meat?

Somewhere between two and four million dogs are consumed in South Korea every year, but the slaughtering and processing is carried out in dirty environments and poses a risks to diners’ health. In Apr 2008, the Seoul government has proposed reclassifying dogs as livestock so it can set food safety standards. Remind me not to have any South Korean street stir fry!

The rules and regulations regarding oversight on pet foods are largely just suggestions. Make sure that what you’re feeding your pet is of high quality. Maybe the best alternative is cooking up your own?

U.S. Army Helps to Restore the Baghdad Zoo in Iraq

Not everyone in the US Army is pumping the terrorists full of lead in Iraq. Some of our soldiers are restoring a normal life to the human and animal members of Iraq by rebuilding the Baghdad Zoo. This is a story that isn’t widely known or reported on. There will be a movie about the zoo restoration that was actually started by an independent South African conservationist named, Lawrence Anthony. He sneaked into the zoo early on in the war and enlisted the help of the Army to defend and rebuild it. Fascinating story.
